Last Day

Today was our last day of our trip. It may have been short, but we really enjoyed ourselves. We ended up taking a guided trolley tour to learn more about the history of the city. It was fantastic. Very informative, and with the 72 degree weather, it was a perfect way to end our mini vacation.

Thanks for checking in. Our next trip (fingers crossed) 'should' be at the end of April. Marnin has a conference in Orlando. Since it's when I finish my animation course, we thought it would be a perfect way to celebrate. I'm not celebrating the fact that I'm finishing, because as you know, I'm a professional student! I'm celebrating the fact that I got the chance to learn what I've always wanted to learn. So, what will I do upon graduating? I'm going to DISNEY LAND! Um, yeah...old reference.

We found a great place that sold all sorts of unique antiques. This is a picture of the most amazing hand painted (as well as photographed) slides. I bought a few amazing pieces of cartoon strips. Lucky find!

In case you want to park your horse...

FYI: Savannah is the birthplace of Juliette Low, founder of the Girl Scouts.

Found a comic shop! Oh yes...I bought a graphic novel. You know me so well.

Have you seen the movie 'Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil'? I saw parts of it the other night for the first time. It was filmed here, and trust me, you know it when you come to visit! It's everywhere!
We toured the Mercer Williams House. It was really interesting, even though I didn't know the back story. We ended up making the last tour, but missed the first part. The tour guide (originally from Buffalo) was so sweet. He let everyone else leave, and gave us our own private tour from the beginning so we wouldn't miss anything.

Ornate iron fencing.

This is Savannah's smallest house. Apparently it has only 1 room, and is up for sale. If you're interested, it's going for $279,000.

Purple house. Reminds me of some of the houses in Rochester, NY.

The Lady & Son's, Paula Deen's restaurant. It was booked up (as it always is), but we got to go into the gift shop. I wish she was there. That woman is adorable! If you're not sure who she is, Google her.

The Six Pence British pub. We ended up having lunch there today. Apparently it was in the movie, 'Something to Talk About'. I haven't seen it, but I guess Julia Roberts found her husband (Dennis Quaid) with another woman in there. No idea, but great portobella sandwich!

That's it for now. We're off to Buffalo tomorrow, via North Charlotte. I don't think you need to see pics of Buffalo! ;)
See y'all real soon!

Ok, so granted it's a horrible picture, but I'm on a boat...and I have VERTIGO! I mentioned the ferry that takes us into town, but I didn't mention how dizzy it makes me. I don't do boats. Not at all. However, the 2 minute drive hasn't really been an issue. Tonight was different. The ferry came, we got on, but the captain said it was going to be another 20 minutes. We waited on the boat. Needless to say, when it finally got to our destination, I was walking like I had waaaaay too much to drink. I aim to amuse.

This was where the torch was lit for the opening of the 1996 Olympics.

A synagogue. We always seem to find at least one. This was a reform synagogue that I guess was turned into a museum, but it was closed.

Sunset.

CANDY

Another passion of mine is old tyme candy shoppes. As you've seen from older Blogs, I drag poor Marnin to any sweet shoppe that shows how they make their product. Remember the Jelly Belly Factory pics? Soooo gooood. The one in Colorado was pretty sweet too, no pun intended.

There are a lot of candy shops here, and their specialties seem to be taffy and candied pralines. Sadly, I couldn't have either. I'm allergic to nuts and chocolate, so the chocolate covered pralines wouldn't be a good idea...and the taffy was made on the same table at the pralines. So, yeah. I did however get to enjoy watching Marnin sample the goods. That gives me great pleasure as I get to watch him enjoy it and I don't gain the weight! ;)

Spring in Savannah

I love going away this time of year. It reminds me that Spring is coming! Here are a few pictures to assure you that the warmer weather is on the way.

Another palm. I can't get enough of them!

Cherry blossom? Not sure, but it's pink and pretty. ;)

Those of you who know me, and that should be anyone reading this (if you don't, how'd you get this link?), know I always take pictures of animals and wildlife. So, here's a robin. When I spot the first one, I know Spring is around the corner. I'm not sure why it was laying in the middle of the sidewalk, but I promise you it was ok. Like the beaver story on my Facebook page (you know the one...under our car), it's not dead...it was just laying there. It flew away as soon as I got close. I swear!
I tried to get a shot of the squirrels here, but unlike the big FAT ones (that resemble small cats) in London, these ones are skinny and very quick.

Walking around Savannah

Today we took the day to walk around Savannah. From the old buildings to the stone paved walkways, this place is gorgeous! We took over 120 photos, so for obvious reasons I'll only post a few.

A few more pics...

Just a cool looking alleyway. Old brick, old stone. I'm sure this is one of the routes along the ghost walk.

Our hotel as seen from the ferry.

The bridge the taxi took to get us to our hotel. It also goes into South Carolina.

Savannah, Georgia

It's March break...and I'm a student, so I decided to go where all the cool kids go. Savannah, Georgia!?! Um, yeah. Actually, we're here for the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry. Marnin's presenting some of his work. I'm so proud!

So many of you were sweet enough to ask me to keep you posted on my travels, that I decided to make a blog like I did for my trip to Scotland and Yellowknife. It's so much easier than filling up your mailboxes with pictures!

I'll try to get some good pics. I may even see one of the resident dolphins if I'm lucky. The weather is gorgeous at 67, although it's still a bit chilly because we're on the water. No complaints here, that's for sure.

Feel free to comment, but please keep it clean (kiddies are visitors too), and be nice. I cry easily. ;)

Have a great weekend!

A shot of the river walk from the Ferry. Our hotel (The Westin Savannah Harbor) is on a little island, so we get to take a ferry into town. It comes every 20 minutes and it's free. Fun!

Palms outside of our hotel. If you know me, you know I LOVE palm trees. It's what makes me feel that I'm truly on vacation. Random sidenote: Tamara means palm/date tree. I'm a fountain of useless information!

One of the Ferries that takes us into town.

Flying high above Georgia. We took a flight from Buffalo to Washington (about 45 minutes), and another into Savannah which was just over an hour. Nice, smooth flights all around.
